Connect WhatsApp to Claude

What you need

• WhatsApp on your phone, with the number you want Claude to use.
• A WaBot API key. Start a free trial: 3 days, no card.
• A paid Claude plan: custom connectors aren't available on the free plan.

Step 1: Get your key and link your WhatsApp

1. 1 On the WaBot home page, choose Start free trial and enter your email. Confirm it, and your API key arrives in your inbox.
2. 2 Open the portal link from that email and go to Connect Device.
3. 3 On your phone, open WhatsApp → Linked devices → Link a device, and scan the QR code.

Step 2: Add WaBot to Claude

1. 1 In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and click Add custom connector.
2. 2 Name it "WaBot" and paste the URL https://wabot.astranexo.com/mcp. Leave the advanced OAuth settings empty.
3. 3 Click Add, then Connect. A WaBot page opens: paste your API key (or click Continue as if you're signed in to the WaBot portal in the same browser), then click Allow.
4. 4 In a chat, turn on WaBot from the tools menu (the + or settings button) and ask for what you need.

Once you add the connector on claude.ai, it also works in the Claude desktop and mobile apps.

Using Claude Code

Developers can add the same connector to Claude Code from the terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http wabot https://wabot.astranexo.com/mcp

Then, inside Claude Code, run /mcp, choose wabot and sign in the same way: paste your API key (or click Continue as), then Allow.

What Claude can do, and the limits

• See whether your WhatsApp is connected and how many messages you can still send today.
• List your recent chats, read a conversation, and find people and groups by name or number.
• Send messages and files, but only to people and groups you've already written to: never new numbers, or chats only the other person started.
• Claude asks for your OK before each message it sends, and messages go out a few seconds apart to protect your number.
• WaBot doesn't store your chats: Claude reads them live when you ask.

Which plan do I need?

Every plan works with Claude. To have Claude reply to other people, choose Unlimited ($6/month or $60/year). Personal ($1/month or $10/year) only sends to your own number, which suits reminders and notes to yourself. Compare plans.

Disconnecting

Remove the WaBot connector in Claude's settings. To disconnect every assistant at once, get a new API key in the WaBot portal (your other integrations will then need the new key).

WaBot is not Meta's official WhatsApp Business API: it links your number the way WhatsApp Web does. It's for your own chats and low-volume business messages, not bulk or unsolicited messages.
